The "levels" everyone quotes boil down to one question: who is driving?
Levels 0–2: you are driving
The car can help with steering, speed or both. You still watch the road and take over instantly.

Level 3: the car drives, sometimes
In specific conditions you can look away. When the car asks, you have to take over.
Level 4: no driver, within limits
Robotaxis in certain neighborhoods. Outside their zone they pull over rather than hand you the wheel.
Myth
"Full self-driving" in the name means Level 5.
